Wole Soyinka and Ali Mazrui,Did they sheath their swords?

"When President Idi Amin in Uganda did not like the challenge of Frank Kalimuzo, he said Kalimuzo was not a Ugandan.  Amin later killed Kalimuzo. When Frederick Chiluba, President of Zambia, did not like the challenge of Kenneth Kaunda, Frederick Chiluba said Kaunda was not a Zambian.  When President Konan-Bedie of the Ivory Coast did not like the challenge of Alassane O. Outtara, the incumbent president said the challenger was not Ivorian.
Similarly when Wole Soyinka does not like the challenge of Ali Mazrui, Wole Soyinka says that Ali Mazrui is not an African!!  Can you imagine?  How different is Soyinka from the likes of Idi Amin, Frederick Chiluba, and Konan-Bedie apart from the fact that Soyinka does not control the state apparatus?  The authoritarianism in Kongi Soyinka is unmistakable!"

First African female Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai is dead

”It is with great sadness that the family of Professor Wangari Maathai announces her passing away on 25th September, 2011, at the Nairobi Hospital, after a prolonged and bravely borne struggle with cancer. Her loved ones were with her at the time.
”Professor Maathai’s departure is untimely and a very great loss to all who knew her — as a mother, relative, co-worker, colleague, role model, and heroine; or who admired her determination to make the world a more peaceful, healthier and better place.
”Prof. Wangari Muta Maathai started the Green Belt Movement in 1977, working with women to improve their livelihoods by increasing their access to resources like firewood for cooking and clean water. She became a great advocate for better management of natural resources and for sustainability, equity, and justice.

The Little Boy with the Doll

This is not my story, but it really touch me and I want to share it.............................. I was walking around in a supermarket when i saw a cashier hand this little boy his money back, the boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.'' The little boy turned to the old woman next to him, ''Granny, are you sure I don't have enough money?'' She replied, ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.'' Then she asked him to stay there for just 5 minutes while she went to look around. She left quickly. The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas. She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.' I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus would bring it to her after all, and not to worry. But he replied to me sadly. 'No, Santa Claus can't bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' His eyes were so sad while saying this, 'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.'' My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said, 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of himself. He was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so she won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy and I wish she didn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll!'' OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said, 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give it to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.'' 'My mommy loves white roses.' A few minutes later, the old lady returned and I left with my basket. I finished my shopping in a totally different state of mind from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy I read in the newspaper that the young woman had passed away. I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine, and in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him. Now you have 2 choices: (1) Copy & Paste this on your wall (2) Ignore it as if it never touched your heart.

I don’t need to be like Nebuchadnezzar to Save Nigeria. Jonathan fights back

“If you listen to some of the things people say or write in papers, some people would want the president to be a lion; some people would want the president to be a troop commander who would crush everybody on sight.  Unfortunately, I am not a troop commander. I am not an Army General.
“Some would want the president to be like David or other warriors in the Bible. Unfortunately, I am not one of those.
“The only prayer I need from you is for God to use me to change this country
"I don’t need to be like Nebuchadnezzar, David or other great men to change this country, but with your prayers, I can change this nation; we can make the difference. Someone had written in the papers: is Nigeria on auto pilot?  I tell them that Nigeria is not on auto pilot; God is in-charge and God will take us to the destination He has destined for us.”

“some Nigerians chose to vilify us” when world leaders like  President Barak Obama of the United States and Jacob Zuma of South Africa had hailed him for his efforts so far.
“Obama, when he spoke at the United Nations General Assembly and on several occasions, commended Nigeria.  But back home here, we are being abused.  When we had the Security Council, when they spoke, they commended Nigeria.  When others spoke, they commended Nigeria. What I can assure you is that God is at work and we shall get to our destination,”

Celebrating Poverty at 51

The 51 independence celebration is around the corner, Nigeria has become a laughing stock to other African countries and international communities,
Nigeria, the largest black nation on the continent of Africa, is celebrating its 51 years of independence in poverty, insecurity and unemployment.
In spite of abundance of human and mineral resources, the entity called Nigeria, was still not getting it right in its ways of doing things.
bad leadership, deceit, selfishness and greed are some of the factors responsible for the nation’s present state, the nation has turned her back on God and the leadership has been blinded by greed
A country so blessed is still not getting it right at 51.

  • "Director Samuel Pagdilao, head of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said the foreigners were arrested inside a hotel in Manila."
Authorities learned about the suspects' illegal activities after receiving an e-mail complaint from the mother of one of the minors.

"The [minors] were being sold to the suspects for sexual services at the... hotel. The complainant also sought the assistance of CIDG for the rescue of her daughter," Pagdilao said in a statement.

In a rescue operation about 10 p.m. of Wednesday, CIDG operatives saw a certain Emma Cruz, believed to be the minors' "handler," negotiating with the Nigerians outside the hotel. Police said the victims were being peddled to the suspect for P1,500 each.

Authorities then arrested the Nigerians after the complainant-mother, who went along with the CIDG operatives, recognized one of the minors being "sold" as her 14-year-old daughter.

But the alleged "handler" eluded arrest, Pagdilao said."
